Fatalities Involving Trucks Increase by 86% in 1 Year

According to figures released by the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE), the number of truck deaths in NSW has increased by more than 86 per cent in the last 12 months.

A police report indicated that the increase in fatalities may be linked to heavy vehicle traffic connected to major infrastructure and construction projects such as the WestConnex upgrade.

The number of heavy vehicle linked fatalities on the road increased from29 to 54 in the 12 months to September which was the largest increase of any state.

All other states experienced a decline in the percentage of fatalities linked to heavy vehicles.
