Bringing the Australian Code of the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road and Rail in line with new United Nations requirements, changes to the code come into effect on 1 July and as of 1 July 2019 they become compulsory.

The updated version was approved by ministers in May and will reduce the burden associated with transporting low-risk items.

The main changes of the code include the simplification of transportation of lower-risk limited quantities of dangerous goods.

Operators involved in transportation of low-risk dangerous goods in limited quantities such as perfumes, cosmetics and cleaning products wont have to abide by the labeling and marking requirements of the past which were described as tiresome and “burdensome”.
