Truck Accident involving Car Carrier

An incident occurred along the Bruce Highway which resulted in a B-Double truck carrying seven cars on a trailer to crash. The driver of the truck, a 45 year old man was driving without a licenced trailer and so received an infringement notice.

Although the truck driver did not receive any injuries the incident was costly and unnecessary which is why other operators and drivers can learn from the incident.

The cause of the incident has not been identified but even if the driver was innocent of any wrong doing, the fact that the trailer was unlicensed resulted in repercussions for him. Other drivers should ensure that they are following Chain of Responsibility laws and are within their licensing requirements and load limitations.

Drivers must also ensure that they adhere to fatigue management laws and take the required number of breaks. They should also ensure that the vehicle is within mass limitations.

Operators of trucks need to ensure the vehicle is serviced and maintained regularly and that speed limiters are not tampered with.  Drivers with such large loads and trailers are even more likely to crash when they are speeding than smaller vehicles, so maintaining the appropriate speed throughout the journey is crucial to preventing a crash.
