Truck Crashes into Cyclist in Northcote

A man has been killed in Melbourne’s inner north after being run over by a truck.

The man, a cyclist died after the truck hit into him just after 8am on Victoria Road, outside the Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre. The road was closed and traffic and buses were diverted.

He died on the scene.The male truck driver was uninjured in the crash and was assisting police with their inquiries.

The crash comes after an appeal from another young cyclist who, after a truck accident 2 years ago, was left permanently disfigured. He has called for tougher training and licensing requirements for heavy vehicle drivers in the state.
