The Victorian truck driver who was behind the wheel of a truck that veered onto the wrong side of the road has pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing death by dangerous driving. The prosecution alleges the man was distracted by his new girlfriend at the time.

The driver says he had a coughing fit and blacked out which caused the semi-trailer he was driving to veer into oncoming traffic. The truck collided with the vehicle of a 61 year old woman who was killed in the crash .

The prosecutor said there was no diagnosis in relation to the cause of the blackouts, although there has been no doctor that said the blackouts were not genuine.

The driver had his new girlfriend in the cab at the time which the prosecution says is evidence that he was distracted, he also was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
