Volvo has debuted it’s latest concept truck – a cabless, autonomous truck called Volvo Vera.
The truck was designed to carry standard container and trailers short distances within ports, factories and large logistics centres, Volvo says.
The trucks will operate at low speeds, the company says to ensure safety. They will be connected wirelessly to a central command centre that will keep track of it’s location, battery state, goods type, traffic flow and other critical information.
Some of the benefits of the truck, Volvo claims are reduced emissions and stockpiles, allowing a factory of shipping facility to operate 24 hours.
There’s no word yet on when the Vera will go into production or whether it will be available commercially for purchase.
