TrackSafe, the railway industry body, has completed a survey of train drivers across the country to identify the ten most dangerous level crossings in each state.

Once the list was compiled TrackSafe wrote to the State and Federal Transport Ministers in Australia asking them to allocate funding to upgrading all of these level crossings.

Brian Nye, the CEO of the Australasian Railway Association (ARA) and TrackSafe Director, said that the train drivers are the ones that know the most dangerous crossings because they travel the same stretches of track every day.

Every year there are approximately 70 collisions at level crossings because the drivers on the roads do not follow the road rules, there are 35 deaths as a result.
