In a similar incident, a 12 year old child has been hit by a truck at the Wagga show on Friday night. The child was seriously injured after a semi-trailed ran over him during a brawl at the event. The boy was apparently involved in the brawl and fell into the path of the truck which was driving along the internal access road at the time.

A post on http://www.dailyadvertiser.com.au explains:

He was seriously injured when he was run over by the rear wheels of the trailer and was taken to Wagga Base Hospital. He is expected to be airlifted to Sydney for treatment of a fractured pelvis, internal injuries and serious leg injuries.

The truck driver, a 39-year-old man, was uninjured during the incident but also taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

A crime scene has been established inside the Urana Street entrance to the venue and a number of people could be seen standing outside the gates last night.

At least four ambulance vehicles and six police cars were on scene.

Another ambulance was called to treat a male, believed to be in his 30s, for a possible broken nose and other injuries.

If these 2 incidents prove anything, it is that truck drivers need to maintain alertness when driving because at any time pedestrians, animals or other vehicles can dart out in front of them. Although given the hours that drivers spend on the road, maintaining alertness throughout the day may seem challenging, the best drivers are those who know how to maintain a balance between driving time and rest times. They also remain healthy and fit because this helps to combat fatigue and promotes alertness.
